![]() Just thought I'd start the ball rolling and share an in depth recap of our LAN. ![]() THURSDAY So we arrived on Thursday to the lovely Uttoxeter Racecourse to meet up with our attractive teammates and get settled in at the event. The venue was as welcoming as the previous events and had a very welcoming atmosphere as all the CoD4 teams were closely enclosed together in hall 2 as seen on the streamgasm CU@LAN video. With little planning we ended up going off to sleep later than most and suffered the consequences with the early start for group games at 11 AM the next morning. Thursday Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kQoeOebQdA FRIDAY (GROUPS) Decerto vs AT.CMstorm At first sights of our groups, we were a little intimidated by the 2 invite teams but not shaken from the fact that we were confident that we would finish top 3. Our personal aim for the groups however, as we always try to set ourselves a difficult but reachable target, was to beat the invite line-up AT and finish 2nd in the group, behind the big boys, Phantasmagoria. We went into the game very level headed and determined to give the AT fellas a good game. The first map was strike and after a very close and intense game, we finished a respectable 11 – 13. For our first official match of the whole LAN against a reasonably decent team, we were pleased and ready to nail it on the second map, one we were much better at, crossfire! We knew at the very start of the event that strike was one of our worst maps and crossfire was oppositely one of our most strong, and so we had high sights set for the second map. We ended up playing extremely well and concentrating fully due to the enveloping LAN atmosphere, and ploughed ahead to a 13 – 7 win. With a close first map and a very good result on our second, we dived head first into the 3rd with an incredibly positive attitude, and again we managed to perform on citystreets. With calculated positioning and round by round encouragement after every small victory, our high spirits carried us through our first win of the LAN, 3 points down on the scoreboard for our group. Decerto vs Phantasmagoria Before this game we knew it would probably be our most difficult. We knew we were probably not going to win this game, but we were determined to give it all that we had and possibly even grab a map vs the notorious Phantasmagoria. The first map was to be citystreets. We started to slip in motivation as the round gap became bigger in the second half, and let the map quickly close at a 6 – 13 loss. We contemplated calling a timeout as our positioning and gaps became weaker and wider vs their on-going demolition but opted to let the map slip instead of grabbing a few extra rounds and still losing the map overall. Instead, we chose to focus more on how we were going to combat them in the second map. Crossfire vs Phantasmagoria was to be our best game of the event. Everything just fell into place. We took a 7-5 lead on attack which still kept things very close. A prolonged fluctuation of individual brilliance from every one of our team brought the score to 11 – 11. The next few were to be the most important. Keen positioning and intense patience grabbed us the 23rd round and brought it to 12 – 11 in favour of team Decerto. The last round was upon us and we were very determined to seize it. We lost 1 player early and were left in a 4v5. Not long after, phan had managed to get the bomb down and we were faced with the mammoth task of reclaiming the site and snatching the defuse. A calculated counter attack swiftly went into motion as we took down 3 of the phan players in a flurry of kills, leaving VAE left alone to find. With 4 Decerto players swarming around the site, he didn’t have long before he was shut down after sneaking 2 quick kills, leaving us to defuse the bomb and win the round for 13 – 11, the first and only map in the whole tournament for phantasmagoria to lose. The 3rd map was unfortunately to be on strike, famously phan’s extremely strong map. After our win on crossfire, we were expected to give them a good game on strike as well but unfortunately we were just no match for the phantasmagoria side’s incomparable teamwork, and ended up finishing 5-13. A disappointing end but a satisfying result non the less. The rest of the groups went very smoothly for us, winning the next 6 maps in a row and finishing 2nd in our group, bringing the day to a close on a high with an early finish at 5pm, leaving the rest of the evening to chillax and watch our oppositions sweat over their late night matches! ![]() AT.CMstorm 11 - 13 (strike) : http://i.imgur.com/VtmSa.jpg AT.CMstorm 13 - 7 (crossfire) : http://i.imgur.com/scwQy.jpg AT.CMstorm 13 - 8 (citystreets) : http://i.imgur.com/NgDwf.jpg Phantasmagoria 6 - 13 (citystreets) : http://i.imgur.com/xywvG.jpg Phantasmagoria 13 - 11 (crossfire) : http://i.imgur.com/TnOqD.jpg Phantasmagoria 5 - 13 (strike) : http://i.imgur.com/9n04m.jpg HJX.e9 13 - 5 (crossfire) : http://i.imgur.com/7WGPv.jpg HJX.e9 13 - 3 (backlot) : http://i.imgur.com/orUHu.jpg Team ReiZen 13 - 3 (crash) : http://i.imgur.com/4VRK6.jpg Team ReiZen 13 - 4 (strike) : http://i.imgur.com/u7ZtU.jpg Friday Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLSuqoMGx7c SATURDAY (PLAYOFFS) Decerto vs N.evo After coming back from groups feeling good about ourselves, we went all guns blazing into our first playoffs game vs n.evo. The first map turned out to be backlot which didn’t begin as planned. In-between yawns and rubbing our eyes, before we knew it we were in a 3 or 4 round deficit in the first half, never a good start. We quickly made the decision to call a timeout and screw our heads back on. We talked together about what was going wrong and reformulated our plans, putting us back on the ball and winning the first map. We ended up winning the second and being put through into the second round of playoffs. Decerto vs BallerS This was a game that didn’t go well for us at all. The demoralising first round with distant getting an early +15 on crash attack instantly put us in bad spirits. Our attempts to overcome the BallerS side’s superior individual skill were not enough to win us the rounds, with phantasy coming up huge on the crash game, we couldn’t see our opportunity to start bringing rounds for ourselves onto the board, resulting in us losing both maps at a 0 – 2 loss. Decerto vs apeX We were not happy about facing apeX in the lower bracket this early in the tournament whatsoever, and It was thanks to an unfortunate series of events including late arrivals, heated arguments and unfortunate positioning. Nevertheless, we were faced in a Bo1 match against the 2nd place finishing team, a daunting task considering their missing link toxjee had just arrived and was setting up for our match-up. Overall, apeX were clearly showing to be the stronger side on citystreets, gaining a lead towards the end after we kept it close the whole map, closing our chances of placing higher in the tournament at an 8 – 13 loss, utter disappointment. Our frustrations were shared by our fellow gamers attending the event but it was no use as we were knocked out. A respectable 9th – 12th finish left us dissatisfied but acceptant of our overall placement. The event overall for us was an exciting one, full of very close games and emotional moments. We left the event having felt proven as a team and yet slightly upset that teams we hadn’t lost to had placed higher than us overall in the tournament. Thanks for reading if you have, you’re a true academic if you lasted this long! Thanks and seeya later! Decerto out.
